The Sterija Theater Festival, a national drama festival and theater contest, was established in 1956, the 150th and 100th anniversaries of playwright Jovan “Sterija” Popovi?’s birth and death, respectively. The theater festival gathers local and international professional theaters, which stage plays written by local playwrights.
