The International May Choir Competition

The International May Choir Competition was established in 1975.

In 1982 the competition was named after the well-known Bulgarian composer Georgi Dimitrov – the founder of the modern Bulgarian choir school.

Since 1989 the International May Choir Competition is member of the Organizing Committee of the international competition Grand Prix Europe, which was held successively in Arezzo ( Italy ), Debrecen ( Hungary ), Tours ( France ), Gorizia ( Italy ), Varna ( Bulgaria ) and Tolossa ( Spain ).
The six choir competitions above are among the most prestigious in Europe and enjoy a deservedly high reputation due to their long traditions, good organization and high artistic level.
The competition is held bi-annually, according to rules, which are updated for each edition and is voted at a session of the Town Council.
