The Maramures wooden churches (18th century) represent outstanding technical and artistic exemples for the vernacular religious architecture. Emerging from the rural landscape, their spire are among the tallest structure ever erected in the period. The exterior decoration is simple and generally focused in the porch and portal area, made of carved wood in the form of solar discs, twisted rope, etc. The interior, generaly composed of a altar, naos and pronaos, is painted with vegetal colors on wood and fabric.
