The forum was founded by the first Roman Emperor Augustus, to which two stone inscriptions about its completion dating from the 3rd century testify. It covers an area of 95x45 metres. It was enclosed by porches and galleries on the floors, and underneath the porches the shops and workshops were situated. Only the original cobbling and two decorative, monumental columns one of which is in its original place, have survived to this day. Earlier this column was used as the 'Column of shame' to which the chains from that era are evidence of. In the reconstructed part of the cobbling of the capitol, grooves for an altar have been discovered, where it is believed blood offerings were made. Even today, it represents the starting point of urban planning.
