The Monastery of the Holy Archangels is situated in the gorge of the Bistrica River. It is near the road linking the towns of Prizren and Tetovo, a road which has existed since mediaeval times.
The monastery was built back in the 14th century on the remains of an earlier sacred site, and it was surrounded by defensive walls. The layout of the walls is in a triangular shape that follows the outlines of the plateau and the river bed. In 1615 it was destroyed and stones used for the Sinan Pasha Mosque in Prizren.
In 1990 monastery revived and residential quarter was built. In 2004 a fire burst and the monastery was damaged but shortly after that reconstructed.
