Perast is the most beautiful small town in Kotor Bay, Boka Kotorska, and a very attractive tourist site. It is an old historical town, where the Venetian influence is so visible. Perast is a town of famous sailors, educated and rich people, and of great artists – generally a town of great tradition. In 18th century, this small town had only 1643 residents, but a fleet of one hundred ships. Near Perast there are two small islands: one is called St. George, and the other called Gospa od Shkrpjela (Our Lady of the Rock). On each of them we can find a pictoresque chapel. Gospa od Shkrpjela is particularly interesting given that it is the only artificially built island in the Adriatic. In 1452, it was built upon a rock, after two sailors from Perast found a picture of the Virgin Mary on it.
