The Antique and Byzantine heritage was transformed during the 13th-19th centuries through the Middle Ages. The urban pattern reflects an organization of neighborhoods with mescids from the 13th-14th centuries, among which the oldest monument is the Great Mosque. The town acquired the identity of a typical settlement in 15th century. The houses are arranged on two-storeys around a courtyard, with solid walls facing the street and windows opening inwards. The organic street pattern ending in cul-de-sacs, white-washed walls and chimneys are some of the most characteristic elements.
