Founded by German craftsmen and merchants known as the Saxons of Transylvania, Sighisoara is a fine example of a small, fortified medieval town which played an important strategic and commercial role on the fringes of Central Europe for several centuries.

Sighisoara Citadell

The citadell of Sighisoara developed from a fortified precinct atop of a hill watching the river and the commercial route along it. Two particular important monuments are landmarking the citadell: The Church of the Hill (mid XIVth-end XVth century) and the Clock Tower (XIVth century).
