The Catholic Cathedral of Timisoara was designed by the famous Viennese architect Josef Emmanuel Fischer von Erlach. It was erected between 1736 and 1754 in the main square of Timisoara (Temeswar), to celebrate the freedom brought by Austria and Christianity to the region. The design respects the cornice and the general height of the Liberty Square where the building is located.
