The village was founded 700 years ago and still preserves the pattern and architectural features of a typical traditional Islamic rural settlement with its half-timber houses and including monuments from Byzantine and early Medieval periods. Cumalikizik was listed as an urban and natural site in the national inventory in 1990; it was proposed for the World Heritage List in 2000 as well. Today the village is a preferred national destination with its characteristic heritage.
