The church was erected by the Moldavian Metropolite Movila between 1582 and 1584 and displays a number of particular features which identifies the church among the group of painted churches with exterior frescoes: the presence of two porches on the North and South fronts of the exonarthex, the presence of some Wallachian and Balkanic architectural features such as the recessed arcades or the painted brick and plaster rows.
