Stari Bar (Old Bar) was encircled by ramparts enclosing an area of 4,000 square metres. Within it are residential, public and cult buildings from different periods. Most of them are in ruins, with the exception of a clock tower, customs house, church and hammam that were restored after the earthquake in 1979. The residential architecture includes features typical of the different periods of construction: Late Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque combined with Oriental elements. The Old Town of Bar was destroyed many times over the centuries.
