St. Peter’s Basilica is known in Kosovo as the ‘Saxon’ or the ‘Latin’ Church. It was built in the 13th century by Saxon settlers in Kosovo who, in the medieval period, were specialised in mining and metal extraction. The basilica was used until the 16th century. It is particularly interesting because its architectural style and construction techniques are Gothic while the frescoes decorating the interior are Byzantine.
